Centrifugal Compressor with Thrust Vector Control for UAV Propulsion

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) capable of Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) require a high thrust to weight ratio. This research aims to determine the relevance of centrifugal compressors with thrust vector control (TVC) as a means of propulsion for small UAVs. A centrifugal compressor, as opposed to conventional propellers, prevents exposure to high speed rotating blades, thereby increasing safety. Further computational flow analysis shows the potential efficiency gains of alternative propulsion mechanisms for UAVs, thus reducing the consumption of energy resources.
